Hi to all of my St. Stephens brothers and sisters:
As I travel through life I realize how lucky I was to have grown up in St Stephens Parish. My family, my North-Philly neighborhood and St Stephens was my world.
The preparation they provided me for life was the best! It sounds to me, as I read your comments that you agree. I often spend time with Eileen Boyle in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. and with Lila Fish, in beautiful Cape May, N.J. and we reminisce about the "Old Neighborhood" and how great it would be to spend time with our childhood friends. I am thrilled that will happen on the 23rd.
I remember all of the places you spoke about and I wonder if you remember H&H, The White Tower and Fishers Restaurant on Broad St. The big decision on First Friday morning was whether to go to Georges or to H&H for breakfast. I passed Tyes Pharmacy ( Erie Ave & York Rd) every morning on my way to Little Flower for four years and as fate would have it, Mr. Tyes grand-daughter is now my family doctor and she is wonderful. Wasn't Germantown Ave. the best, all of its' great shops including the two 5&10's? I also loved the arcade with the Pansey Shop and The Pet Shop. What a great neighborhood to raise a family.
I keep in touch with Sister Clare Annice and I'm so happy she is coming on the 23rd. Sister Anne Patrice was also one of my favorites. She is wonderful and I used her name in my daughters' (Maureen Patrice). The sisters of St Stephens Grade School must have done something right to instill the great values that flow through the memories from all of you. It would sound a bit weird to some people to hear that some of the greatest times you had in grade school was when you were cleaning the convent but as I read your words it sounds to me like you might understand? Getting the ride on the floor-polisher after Sister left was the best!
My thanks in advance to Diana and her team for all of the efforts put forth to make the Reunion happen. I look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday and it's great to be able to say, "See you soon". Phyllis Butler Casey, Class of 1958

Bob Gavin is right again, as usual. Frank Harkins, the cop at PAL took us out of the PAL pool hall and introduced us to the game of basketball at Simon Gratz. Sorry Bob, another senior moment.

I attended Saint Stephens first through eight grade and regret that I could only attend Roman Catholic till my Junior Year..We moved to N.E Philly and they wouldn't let me stay for my senior year..I remember all the times we had hanging at Georges,Sun Ray and 11th+Ontario..The only thing that sticks was that crazy nun in eight grade who tried to cut my hair and any guy's hair that she deemed to be too long..Those were the days...JIM

Response to Bob Gavin - you do have that correct about Sr.Marie Assumpta's relative. According to classmates.com she used to mention that often.

Inspector Morris! How do you speak of basketball & not mention the PAL nite games at Simon Gratz High???You east side guys didn't know life existed west of Broad St.
The man that ran that league for PAL was Officer Frank Harkins whose son became a firefighter & worked with me at 22nd & Hunting Park.Anyone ever hear from Jimmy King from Jerome St.?????

Joe Brown told me to read the guest book. I haven't read it for quite awhile. I'm glad I did. I see Bob Gavin, Jim Cooney and Jim McGill from '53 have been busy along with Claire Norrington Walsh. When, I read all the HH stories, I thought I'd chime in. In 6th grade Sister Clair Annice (my favorite teacher) selected me to be an altar boy. She sent a few of us up to HH's room. Unfortunately, Sister was saying prayers and I was laughing during the prayers and she threw me out of the room and told me to return to my room. I wasn't altar boy worthy. Good call HH.
I haven't seen Joe Lupinacci in years. We played on the same basketball team. I hope Joe Modesta attends, he's a good buddy I haven't seen in awile. I saw some of the Erie Ave,McKees from time to time and I can only think of Wright School basketball. I hope to see you all there. I couldn't mention everyone, I'd be here all day.
